Features

Everything you need for earthworks

Built specifically for DTMs, volumes and setting out — not a CAD package adapted for the job.

Instant DTM & Contours

Paste points or load raw GSI off the instrument — the TIN builds itself with contours at your interval, breaklines, and live levels under your cursor.

Cut & Fill Volumes

Flat formations, falls at 1 in 40 with crossfall, or a level graded along a curved road centreline — plus a one-press balance level where no muck leaves site.

Muckshift Overlay Measures

Overlay this month’s re-survey on original ground — the volume between the two surfaces is what’s been dug. Measured, not estimated, with a PDF to back it.

Piling Platforms

Draw the footprint, enter mat level and thickness — dig, fill and stone in m³ and tonnes inside the boundary only, with corners exported for setting out.

Kerb Offset Pegs

Draw the kerb — radius kerbs fitted through three clicks — and generate the full peg schedule at your offset, with levels and a kerb-race adjustment.

Total Station Downloads

LandXML surface (N,E,Z and E,N,Z), Leica GSI-16, DXF with TIN and contours on layers, and PENZD/PNEZD CSVs. On a TS16 in three menu taps.

About DTM Generator

Built by an engineer,
for engineers

After 30 years working as a civil engineer on groundworks and highways across the UK, I got tired of the same problem on every job — getting from survey points to volumes, levels and setting-out data meant expensive desktop software, a trip back to the office, or a QS day-rate.

So I built DTM Generator — a purpose-built tool that does exactly what you need on site. Load your points, and it builds the ground model, calculates the volumes and produces the files your instrument reads. Eastings, Northings, MOT Type 1 and 6F5 — it speaks your language.

“I built the tool I always wished I’d had on site. One mis-ordered wagon of stone costs more than a year of this app.”

How It Works

From points to paid in four steps

No training needed. No installation. Works offline in the site cabin once the page is open.

1

Open DTM Generator in any browser on a laptop or tablet. Nothing to install.

2

Load Your Points

Paste a CSV or load the raw GSI straight off the total station — E,N,Z in any column order.

3

Model & Calculate

TIN, contours, volumes to any formation, platforms, sections and offset pegs — live on screen.

4

Download & Report

LandXML, GSI, DXF and CSV to the instrument — and a one-click A3 PDF for the site file.

Sample Output

This is what you get out

01

Live ground model

TIN and contours build as your points load — check levels anywhere with the cursor, drop check points, draw long sections.

02

Volumes you can defend

Exact triangle-split maths with a built-in audit — cut area plus fill area always equals the plan area. Tonnages for Type 1, 6F5 and more.

03

One-click A3 PDF report

Plan sheet with title block, north arrow and scale, earthworks and platform summaries, the long section, and the complete point schedule.

04

Straight to the instrument

LandXML surface for DTM stakeout on Leica Captivate and Trimble Access, GSI-16, DXF and coordinate CSVs — with step-by-step TS16 import in the guide.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in any modern browser — Edge, Chrome, Firefox — on a laptop or tablet. Log in, open the app, work.

Does it work offline on site?

Yes. Once the app page is open it runs entirely on your machine, no signal needed. (The PDF report button needs internet the first time it’s used on a device.)

Will it work with my total station?

If your instrument reads LandXML, GSI or coordinate CSVs — which covers Leica, Trimble and Topcon — yes. The guide has step-by-step import instructions for the Leica TS16, and both N,E,Z and E,N,Z LandXML variants are included for fussy kit.

Is my survey data uploaded anywhere?

No. All calculation happens in your browser; nothing is sent to a server. Save your job as a single file and it lives on your machine.

How accurate are the volumes?

Flat and straight-graded formations use exact triangle-splitting maths. Curved-centreline and two-surface overlay volumes are integrated on a fine sampling grid — well within a wagon load on any real site. Every run includes a built-in audit: cut area plus fill area equals the plan area.

Can I try before I buy?

The app has a one-click demo site inside it, and the full user guide is free to read — you’ll know exactly what you’re getting. Not for you? Cancel within 14 days for a refund.

Who’s behind it?

Morris Engineering Software — the same team behind Trial Trench Surveys, QuantityPro, QuotaBuild and LandscapeBOQ. Thirty years as a civil engineer; tools built for the people who actually stand in the mud.
